Systems Engineer - Electrical

PXGEO, global geophysical services Company, is looking for an experienced Systems Engineer Electrical to join its industry leading Research and Development team, to support our operations globally. This position will be based our Houston office.


The Systems Engineer Mechanical oversees Electrical aspects of Engineering and Development projects. The role encompasses system design and project management aspects, like costing, scheduling, systems risk assessment and supplier / contractor management.


Typical system design projects include the Subsea handling systems used on ROVs, HAUVs and AUVs for ocean bottom node operations and includes the topside automation systems for efficient handling on deck.

The role is involved in all Manta node product lines bringing design experience and vision of future development and improvement opportunities into the product design process.

 

Planning and preparing deck electrical diagrams on node handling vessels may become part of the role depending on the individuals experience.

 

Specifying, installing and troubleshooting real time data systems including synchronization devices using PTP systems, IRIG PPS and serial communications using Ethernet, RS 422/485, RS 232

 

High / low voltage / Optical systems specification, and troubleshooting.

 

Working with Subsea Cameras, Sonar. Acoustics, IMU/DVL, Bathymetric, altimeters, SVPs and other survey sensors typically used on ROVs HAUVs and AUVs.

As PXGEO own and operate proprietary mechanical and electrical systems occasional Tier 2/3 technical support for operations will be required in support of the Tier 1 technical support resources.

 

It is paramount the Electrical Systems Engineer is highly disciplined in the use of company PDM and PLM tools and has competence with CAD electrical drawing software and is able to perform and check system modeling/analysis and electrical calculations appropriate for the systems being developed.

Main Responsibilities:

​

  • Design Electrical systems and Sub-systems, considering Subsea equipment, Deck handing equipment and Node products.

  • Prepare and manage requirements specification, design, integration, verification, qualification, industrialization, field trials and launch.

  • Develop and implement robust project plans aligned with specifications, project budgets and timelines

  • Model systems and run simulations to look for optimization opportunities.

  • Identify, manage, and mitigate Electrical system risks and document.

  • Perform quality and process audits of contract manufacturers and suppliers.

  • Create complete electrical system and sub-system designs with associated, diagrams, interface documentation BOM’s, part numbers, asset serialization and engineering change management in PLM and PDM.

  • Prepare Systems Engineering support documentation for final operations.

  • Provide Tier 2/3 Systems Engineering technical support upon request.

Required Competencies:

​

  • Bachelor’s or Masters’ Degree in Electrical, Automation, Robotics, Mechatronics or Systems Engineering, with 5+ years’ experience.

  • Experienced in Electrical systems design including IEEE standards

  • Knowledge of Digital and Analog circuit design

  • Experienced in component selection, schematics design, PCB layout and testing using tools like Altium

  • Knowledge in TCP/IP, I2C, SPI and other serial and networking protocols

  • Experienced in project management best practices

  • Experienced in system modelling and simulations

  • Strong design organization skills to manage an extremely fast-paced environment.

  • Subsea equipment, Subsea tooling design or offshore Handing system design experience would be beneficial.

  • Experienced in Solid works and AutoCAD would be beneficial.

  • Experience with Solid works PDM and Propel PLM systems or equivalent would be beneficial.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite incl. MS Project.
